Data science the 4th Industrial Revolution .

The 4th industrial revolution is taking place right before our eyes ,data science is transforming our social, sports, business and political space . The use of statistical data to make informed decisions is moving at an astonishing and intriguing pace .Data science has changed the way elections are conducted by the effective use of data science .The debate is raging on wether it is influencing bad political decision and impacting society negatively .The retail and other enterprise sectors are equally experiencing the effect of data science .The social space is totally transformed and some old technologies put to bed because of effective ways data is being used in everyday .

Data science and Sports .

Data science and sports have become synonymous, with very detailed analytics to help performance and improve decision making process . Most popular sports in the world now employ in house data scientist to give them detailed data on player performance . Getting new playing personnel is almost entirely driven by data driven decisions . Analysing every bit of play and action ,the impact to sports is enormous . Injury to sports personnel has been incredibly reduced due to developments in science and data science is a major contributing factor .

Eliud kipchoge run a full marathon distance in under two hours breaking the human world record in running a marathon distance .The amount of work behind the scene to achieve the record breaking performance included some highly experienced scientist in many disciplines .The input of data scientist in preparing the right data to make sense and into actionable data .This performance is an indication of where data science meets endurance running and sports in general.

His average time per 100m was 17.02 seconds, 200m at 34.03, 400m at 01:08.06, 800m at 02:16.13 and 1,500m at 04:15.3. His 100m pace was replicated 422 times.

Kipchoge also had a 10-second cushion on expected finish time at the half-way stage (13.1 miles)”

Performance in sports as in other sectors of life is increasingly tapping into data science to optimise performance.

For context, the world records at those distances are as follows: 100m: 9.58, 200m: 19.19, 400m: 40:03, 800m: 1:40.91, 1,500m: 3:26, while the world record at 5km is 12:37.35, 10km: 26:17.53 and half marathon at 58:18.

Here are the official splits from the Ineos 1:59 Challenge

Many articles and observations of the political and business space ,my interest to learn data science became ever so strong by each passing day . After reading about Cambridge analytica and their influence on elections round the globe using data science and seeing the carnage they left behind , My desire to learn data science was almost complete . After much deliberation on the positive impact I can contribute to society using data science ,I had to find the right institution to actualise my need to learn data science.

I have worked in several sectors and started a few business over the years ,in 2008 my good friend and I started a digital media company, which was my first serious interaction with data in a rudimentary way , a seed had been planted ,but it it took many more years to find a discipline that would catch my attention . After many months of research and deliberation data science was a sensible and intriguing option to move forward .

I made the decision to read data science at flatiron because it had the ingredients to help me realise my pursuit to study data science. I have officially taken the leap and looking forward to the learning experience .

Mistakes go hand-in-hand with success. Mistakes show us that we can get better and we can learn and grow.
